“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:16-20”

Embodying “Jesus' Great Commission”, the North Shore Faith Community Church began as a Bible Study group at the Holiday Inn in Gurnee in January 2008, with the purpose of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the local community. But the real beginning came as a dream and a vision to Rev. Rosemarie Green, the founder of North Shore, just as it has come to countless prophets and disciples for millennia. The dream began simply enough - Rev. Green wanted to bring together a group of like-minded believers who enjoyed studying the word of God and also enjoyed their time together. Her vision was to unite a diverse population of believers – young and old; black and white; those steeped in ancient church traditions as well as those wanting to create new traditions. It was a matter of convenience, since Rev. Green had been driving as far as 50 miles to commune with other bible study groups. And it was a matter of having the right person for the task and Rev Green offered that as well, having served as former assistant Pastor of Second Baptist Church in Evanston where she had been ordained and licensed by the Rev. Dr. Hycel B. Taylor after completing seminary. And they came. Those who believed in Rev. Green’s vision joined her each week for Bible Study for more than a year, until it became apparent that they had indeed created something new and they declared, “we are waiting for you to start the church”. The vision came to life on November 29, 2009 when this small, but committed group of believers joined Rev. Green in the first worship service of the North Shore Faith Community Church at the Vista Hotel and Conference Center, formerly the Holiday Inn-Gurnee.

North Shore embraces and revels in being a non-traditional church serving the community. This is a body that embraces a theological mix of both "old school" and "new school" in its approach to ministry, leadership, music and outreach. That approach is manifest in the congregants who are young and old, black and white; that approach is manifest in their progressive and diverse leadership; that approach is manifest in how North Shore uses today’s technology to reach congregants who need to balance their need for spiritual fulfillment as well as their busy schedules; and that approach is manifest in the ministry of music where there is a place for both the "old school" and “new school” – all delivered with a purpose to exalt and celebrate Christ. Rev. Green and her congregants adhere to a vision that is real and relevant for both the first century church and the twenty-first century church - yet, while embodying both non-traditional and traditional church ministry, the Gospel message remains the same.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world" - Harriet Tubman
